2019 Is Well On Its Way, Are You?

We’ve all celebrated and welcomed 2019 with open arms. We have had our strategic planning sessions and set our goals. We have our 12-month calendars with team meetings, continuing education, holidays and vacations all documented. We all know what our daily and monthly goals are and we have a quarterly plan. We are all motivated and ready to conquer the world.

So now what? How do we keep this momentum going and keep our team motivated? How do we continue this path to success? We have a few key items here for you to use throughout the year on your journey.

  1. Accountability

It is not enough to make the goals, we all need to be held accountable. One of the easiest ways to do this and not feel like you are micromanaging is to have an action list with a leader and a deadline for each item. Some of the items on the list may have a due date within weeks or it may be months if it is a long project. The key is to make sure everyone is on board and participating.

  1. Monitoring Your Progress

You can also use the action list to monitor your goals. Another way to monitor is to run weekly and monthly reports and watch for trends. Keep the team updated during team meetings. No need to talk numbers during the morning huddle that becomes too financially driven. Instead, have a weekly review that discusses all the goals and what you need to reach the monthly number. The same is true with your month end numbers. Make sure you are using a system that allows you to see your key numbers, such as production, collection, write-offs, prophy and Perio mixture as well as your aging reports. There are very specific percentages which make up a healthy practice.

  1. Communicate Often

The key to staying focused and making sure everyone is on track is to communicate often. Morning huddles, team meetings, and monthly lunch and learns are great ways for the entire team to communicate and interact with one another. This will also allow the team to be on the same page using the same verbal skills and educating your patients, in the same manner, each day. The only way to have a team that works this well together is to have excellent communication.

  1. Adjust Your Plans

“The only thing that stays the same is change.” Don’t be afraid to admit when things are not yielding the desired results. You will need to watch for trends and have the ability to change your plans and actions. Flexibility is key in finding adjustments to ensure your final goal is met.

  1. Celebrate Your Successes

Nothing motivates us more than acknowledging hard work, dedication, and success! Don’t hesitate to say thank you for a job well done or make it a big congratulations when your team meets a milestone goal. You are sure to have many more if you keep the positivity and momentum moving forward.

One month is already past and in the rear-view mirror. Don’t waste another day talking about your goals, make a plan and start implementing them today.  We know you can accomplish everything you set out to do with a well thought out plan in place.

We look forward to hearing that this has been your best year ever!
